It was my return journey from Kasaragod (KGQ) Malabar Express (16630). My train was halted for some more time at a station which I didn't care to notice. After some time, another train hauled by a redhead WAP-4 of Arakkonam loco shed arrived & overtook my train. I didn't notice the train name also. I was just after a good overnight sleep.
The scenery of lush green paddy fields & water-bodies are deep rooted icon of Kerala among malayalis.
Those vast green fields of Palakkadu
& Kuttanadu regions made their innumerable appearance in films,
songs & literature as background landscapes.
They sooth the minds, they freshen the eyes & they open the floodgates of nostalgia in our hearts.

Here are the lyrics in Malayalam

The X class locomotives are a class of metre gauge 0-8-2T rack and pinion compound locomotives working on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway in the Nilgiri Hills of southern India.
They are used on the 20 km section between Coonoor and Mettupalayam where the gradient of the track can be as steep as 1 in 12.5.
Engines of this class were first brought as replacements for the line's original Beyer-Peacock 2-4-0 engines whose traction power was too weak for the traffic.
Indian Railways is for converting Coal-fired steam locomotive to Oil-fired type which can contribute a lot to the easiness of the operation.

This bridge once caused a mishap called as Peruman Train Tragedy in which the Bangalore – Kanyakumari Island Express train derailed on the Peruman bridge over Ashtamudi Lake, near Perinadu, Kollam, Kerala, India and fell into the lake, killing 105 people on July 8, 1988. Officials say the cause for the accident was a tornado. But still the cause of accident remains a mystery. Ten bogie carriages of the Island Express fell into Ashtamudi Lake, and more than 200 persons were seriously injured. Most eyewitnesses say the train was running at a speed higher than what they saw on other days. Some others say that some track maintenance was going on with speed restriction which the driver did not observe.
